GREEN CINEMA - In Italy a Podcast about sustainability
Thanks to the excellent feedback obtained from the Festival Green Guide - a document launched in March 2022 in which the Italian film festivals collected ten good practices to be used to help make events more sustainable - the General Directorate of Cinema of the MiC has decided to integrate it into the 2023 promotion announcement, rewarding events capable of meeting at least 5 of the points illustrated by AFIC. The result is that just one year after the launch of the project, hundreds of Italian film festivals are committing themselves to concrete actions to protect the environment.
To follow up on this initiative and broaden the debate to an ever-increasing audience, after the Green Training organized in October 2022 to raise awareness among associates on the subject, AFIC has created, in collaboration with Radio Sapienza, a pilot podcast of five episodes entitled Green Screen - Sustainable festivals and how to create them, available for free at
Spotify. From problems related to guests' mobility to the energy expenditure of theaters (and streaming), from communication materials and set-ups to the transformation of festivals into organizational machines capable of attracting ever more audiences, from the need to network to the pitfalls of greenwashing: the podcast addresses all these issues through the young voice of two Sapienza students, Martina Polo and Miriam Palma, in search of the right recipe for an inevitable and increasingly necessary green transition.
“The commitment we have made to the associates, the Ministry of Culture and the entire sector” - underlines Giorgio Gosetti, president of AFIC - “has never been formal but made, the commitment to the sustainability of events cannot stop. Recent extreme and unpredictable climatic events remind us that we need to change our habits quickly and with resolution. But without sensitizing young people, broadening the scope of the debate, the battle is lost from the start. I hope this podcast can be a further piece of the green mosaic we are building for present and future festivals”.
